Market sources said that the minimum support price (MSP) of mustard for the next session is likely to be announced on March 28. Farmers are bringing their crops to the market slowly, hoping for an increase in MSP. With festivals approaching, demand is rising, and prices of mustard oilseeds remain strong. Sources added that the demand for mustard will likely increase further in the coming days because its wholesale price is cheaper than all other oils in North India. Mustard Oil Now Cheaper Than Palmolein At present, mustard oil is selling at a lower price than palm olein. In North India, the price of mustard oil is Rs 131 per kg, while soybean oil is Rs 136 per kg and palm olein is Rs 143 per kg. Sources said that peanuts are being sold at 25-26% less than the MSP, leading to lower arrivals in the market. As a result, peanut crushing mills are operating at reduced capacity. This has caused an increase in peanut oil and oilseed prices. Additionally, due to the strong closing of the Chicago Exchange last night and the rising price of soybean oil, soybean oil and oilseed prices have also improved. However, soybean arrivals remain low. Which Oil Will Replace Palmolein? Sources said that after a 2.32% rise in Malaysia Exchange prices, CPO and palm olein prices have also increased. Since palm olein has become expensive, its imports are declining. This raises the question—which oil will fill the gap? Sunflower oil is costly, and soybean has its own limitations. Additionally, the lower arrival of cotton and a Rs 25-30 price increase in Narma has led to a rise in cottonseed prices.
