Rubber Board rolls out iSNR to boost global value, production

Traceability certificate issued by the iSNR (Indian Sustainable Natural Rubber) platform will verify the origin of rubber products and confirm its compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation

Designed to facilitate compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) for Indian rubber ecosystem, the initiative was launched by the Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, George Kurian, at the valedictory function of platinum jubilee celebrations of the Rubber Act 1947 and the Rubber Grower’s Conference.A traceability certificate, issued by the iSNR platform, will verify the origin of rubber products and confirm its compliance with the EUDR. This platform streamlines the compliance process, making it more efficient for stakeholders involved in the rubber supply chain targeting EU markets. iSNR will position Indian natural rubber as a competitive and responsible choice in the global market, setting new benchmarks for sustainable production and fostering long-term growth for the industry.

Subsidy hike on cards

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said there are plans to increase the subsidy for natural rubber cultivation in a phased manner and the government will hold talks with all stakeholders including farmers for the overall development of the sector.INR Konnect, a web-based platform, has also been designed to connect growers of untapped rubber holdings with interested adopters to maximise plantation productivity. The Board will certify the credibility of all participating parties while also impart training to those enlisted in production management, and sustainable practices on a need basis. The platform will also offer a comprehensive database of certified tappers.

It is estimated that around 20 to 25 per cent of India’s rubber plantations remain untapped, mainly on account of drop in prices and rising production costs. Many plantations owned by absentee landlords too have suffered from prolonged neglect, leading to significant crop losses, said Board officials. The awards for the best performers of ‘mRube’, the digital marketing platform of NR, were also distributed at the meeting. Panel discussions were held on various topics including how to handhold stakeholders through schemes and policies.
